I've started beginning each session with some quick 5 minute drawings, sort of self-portraits in that I'm using myself as a model, but with no objective of getting a likeness. Likeness may inadvertently happen, but I'm actually aiming to create a collection of different characters, possibly for use later. So when I see something interesting... an accidental expression, feeling, brooding, etc in the drawn face, I follow and develop it, still using my own face for reference. I also want to begin drawing without any reference again - but in these, I'm a very loose reference JUST drawing with the side of Conte sticks to avoid focus on any details, and almost inviting inaccuracy.
In this one I look like my old friend Ken Jackson.

Five minutes each - except it wasn't enough for white on black paper - I needed 15 on that.

This was 10 minutes. Who is it, I wonder? Anyway, it's really fun.
