Didn't sleep well so felt a bit wiped out today... but went upstairs to do one quick self-portrait - using a fairly hard black Conte stick, and a softer white one (it felt harsher and may be white charcoal). So this was maybe half blind? because I was trying to use the side edge and tip of Conte to describe the form... and this just flowed out so smoothly and automatically... I went around the face, only lifting the Conte a couple times, then filled in highlights loosely... also partially not looking so that left eye got a bit wonky. But I loved the ease I was feeling... possibly more than anything else I've done. So even tho I've changed media frequently, this ease with drawing seems to have come out of the non-stop daily practice. ...and my recent focus on just drawing.
I liked doing this so much, it leaves me a bit confused regarding how I want to proceed. there's something in this process that feels SO natural to me... I need to stay here, if I can, and just explore this for awhile.
